Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: In regard to the animal welfare complaint made to MPI about poor winter grazing practices on a farm in Riverton, Southland, what advice has the Minister or any member of their Office received, if any, regarding the advice provided by MPI Animal Welfare Inspector(s) to the farmer on how to reduce the impact of mud on cattle?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I am advised that the incident you refer to is under investigation by the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and that MPI Animal Welfare Inspectors have visited the property on eight occasions, the first occasion being the 15 May 2024. I am not able to comment further at this time.
