Hon Jenny Salesa to the Minister of Customs: Further to her response to WPQ 39015 (2024), does the Minister plan to engage with her counterparts in Pacific Island nations, if so, who does she plan to meet and how does she plan to coordinate New Zealand and other countries’ responses to transnational organised crime in the Pacific Ocean?

Hon Casey Costello: From 1 to 6 July, I joined Rt Hon Winston Peters and a high-level political delegation to the Solomon Islands, Nauru, and Niue to affirm this Government’s, and Parliament’s, commitment to the Pacific. I will continue to support Customs in its Customs Sector Development Programme that aims to improve Customs capacity across the Pacific and improve economic resilience through revenue collection. Both goals will strengthen Pacific borders against transnational organised crime.
