43100 (2025). Teanau Tuiono to the Minister of Foreign Affairs: What statements or actions, if any, has the Government taken or intends to take regarding the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) following recent events in Australia?
Rt Hon Winston Peters: Following the announcement by Australia, I issued the following statement on X: "New Zealand is gravely concerned to learn of Australia's announcement on Iran's role in antisemitic attacks against the Australia Jewish Community. New Zealand unequivocally condemns Iran's actions, including through proxies, in Gaza, the Red Sea and around the Middle East and the world. State-sponsored attacks designed to sow discord are completely unacceptable. I have asked MFAT officials to convey our concerns urgently and directly to the Iranian Ambassador in Wellington." New Zealand currently maintains restricted engagement with Iran in response to Iran's malign activities. A number of actions have been taken against Iran under these settings, some of which apply to specific IRGC individuals (e.g. some travel bans and sanctions). The Government is considering further options as appropriate.
