Tangi Utikere to the Minister of Transport: How many reports of excessive road cone use received by the New Zealand Transport Authority through the government’s Road Cone Hotline, if any, were investigated in August 2025 and how many road cones, if any, were removed from worksites as a result?

Hon Chris Bishop: The NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) received 51 reports in August 2025. The role of NZTA is to receive submissions regarding perceived excessive use of road cones on the state highway network and refer these to the relevant maintenance or infrastructure project contractor to investigate. NZTA does not collect information on the number of cones removed.
