43058 (2025). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister for Digitising Government: Further to Q082659, if the Government is procuring AI services from Google, will New Zealand data be stored onshore, or in another country, and if so, where?
Hon Judith Collins: Google does not own or operate Data Centres onshore in New Zealand. Data fed into Google AI services is likely to be stored offshore. I do not have visibility of which Data Centres Google may use to store New Zealand Government data gathered through their AI services. Agencies can choose which of Google’s Cloud Regions AI services are delivered from.
