42832 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Health: Does the Minister think that Totara Hospice should be funded by a majority of private sector donations?

Hon Simeon Brown: I am advised that, as an independent organisation, Tōtara Hospice is responsible for setting and delivering its own budget. As I have said in the House, 84 percent of the funding received by Tōtara Hospice, according to their own information, is funded by the Government. As with successive governments, hospices are independent charities funded by Health New Zealand - or previously, district health boards - to deliver specific services.
