42830 (2025). Arena Williams to the Minister of Health: Does the Minister agree with the CEO of Totara Hospice who said that "People are suffering and what we need is appropriate and sustainable funding to meet the needs of palliative and end of life patients."?
Hon Simeon Brown: I agree that it is important that New Zealanders who need specialist palliative care have access to timely, quality services. I am advised that Health New Zealand has provided the hospice sector with a 3 percent increase in funding this year as part of our Government's $1.37 billion increase investment in health in Budget 2025. Our Government values the vital role palliative care plays for New Zealanders, and we've asked Health New Zealand to work with Hospice New Zealand on a nationally consistent approach to palliative care through the National Palliative Care Work Programme.
