42322 (2025). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister for Sport and Recreation: How many, if any, Koru memberships have been purchased by each department or entity that the Minister is responsible for from 27 November 2023 to August 2024; and for what purpose?
Hon Mark Mitchell: Sport New Zealand have purchased 11 Koru memberships from 27 November 2023 to August 2024. High Performance Sport New Zealand have purchased 1 Koru membership from 27 November 2023 to August 2024 Koru memberships are purchased for business travel and are subject to staff meeting the criteria of the Sensitive Expenditure Policy. Please see below; Membership of airline clubs is at the discretion of the respective Group Manager or General Manager. Written approval must be gained in advance of joining. Where staff are expected to travel frequently and extensively (on average two or more times a month), they may qualify for membership. To maximise the value (to Sport NZ/HPSNZ) of airline club memberships, it is expected that where a traveller accesses an airline club lounge during normal dining hours – for example between 6 and 9am, and after 5pm, no other meal claim will be accepted for reimbursement. Staff travel profiles in Tandem (our Group travel management provider) have been setup to allow staff to accrue status points but not Airpoints for business related travel. Accruing status points allows staff to access koru privileges &/or membership upgrades. Sport Integrity Commission Response: Nil.
