Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister for Ethnic Communities: How many, if any, infringement notices issued by the New Zealand Police have been issued to any vehicle owned and/or operated by each department or entity that the Minister is responsible for from November 27th 2023 to August 1st 2025; listed by infringement type, date, fine, and whether the fine was paid by the individual driving the vehicle or by the department/entity?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised by the Ministry for Ethnic Communities (the Ministry) that because the Ministry operates as a Departmental Agency within the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department), it follows the Department’s business vehicle policy and shares the same vehicle pool. In accordance with the Department’s vehicle policy, the operator of the vehicle is responsible for any infringement incurred whilst using a pool vehicle. As the infringement is settled directly between the individual and the issuing authority, the Department has no visibility of infringements except for those issued by speed cameras. From 27 November 2023 to 1 August 2025, there were three camera infringement notices issued by New Zealand Police to the Department’s pool vehicles. These are listed below: - One speeding infringement on 16 July 2024 with a fine of $30 paid by an individual driver. - One speeding infringement on 31 August 2024 with a fine of $30 paid by an individual driver. - One speeding infringement on 1 December 2024 with a fine of $80 paid by an individual driver.
