42109 (2025). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: How many prisoners at Mt Eden with serious mental illness were housed in the Intervention and Support Unit at any time since October 2024?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that people are primarily held in the Intervention and Support Unit at Mt Eden Corrections Facility if they are considered to be at risk of self-harm. I am further advised that not every person at risk of self-harm has a serious mental illness, and to determine how many people had a serious mental illness would require significant manual assessment, which I am not prepared to ask of my officials for the purposes of this response.
