41645 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Economic Development: In the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies, if any, how many staff, if any, have been or are planned to be made redundant, between 27 November 2023 and 10 July 2024?
Hon Melissa Lee: The Government signalled its direction for ongoing cost savings in the public service as part of the overall Budget process (30 May 2024). As part of New Zealand Trade and Enterprise’s response to this NZTE has implemented a reduction of 28 positions, eight of which were vacant. I am advised that between 27 November 2023 and 30 June 2024, 222 employees were made redundant from the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. Please note that this data reflects employees who have departed MBIE, further change processes are ongoing. With regard to New Zealand Growth Capital Partners, I am advised that NZGCP has made one role redundant in the time period in question. A consultation process is underway in relation to two other roles.
