41617 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Economic Development
Written Question

41617 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for Economic Development: In the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies, if any, what demographic data is being collected about the number of staff being made redundant, if any, between 27 November 2023 and 10 July 2024?
Hon Melissa Lee: I am advised New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) holds demographic data on its employees for a range of reporting purposes. I am also advised that it is optional for employees to provide demographic information, so while this data can be used to provide some insights into the impacts of redundancies, it is not necessarily a comprehensive data set.
I am advised that NZTE does not actively collect demographic data on redundancies.
I am advised that the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment collects the following demographic data relating to redundancies:
- Gender
- Ethnicity
Please also note that MBIE staff are not required to provide information about ethnicity and gender – this is voluntary. Therefore, information concerning ethnicity and gender is based on the voluntarily provided information only and is not a complete set of information for all staff who have left MBIE by way of redundancy.
I am advised that New Zealand Growth Capital Partners collected the following demographic data relating to affected roles:
- Gender
- Ethnicity
Please also note that NZGCP staff are not required to provide information about ethnicity and gender – this is voluntary.
