Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that previous estimates for the per unit cost to remediate and structurally strengthen the building to above 67% New Building Standard (NBS) to use for social housing could be up to $1.07 million per unit (total of $125 million). If the building was remediated without structural strengthening (retaining the building at 40% NBS), the estimated cost per unit was $692,000 per unit (total of $81 million). This was based on architect plans and a Quantity Surveyor report.
