Mike Davidson to the Minister of Internal Affairs: Will the Minister commission an independent inquiry into the capacity and capability of Fire and Emergency New Zealand, separate from the advice being sought from the Department of Internal Affairs in relation to the matter that has been referred to the Serious Fraud Office?

Hon Brooke van Velden: The review has raised a number of matters that require careful consideration. The Minister of Internal Affairs will need to take the time necessary to consider its recommendations and determine the appropriate Government response, including whether any further independent work is warranted. It would be premature to commission a separate inquiry before that process is complete.
