41048 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister for the Environment: In the Minister’s departments, ministries and agencies, if any, what savings have been identified, between 27 November 2023 and 10 July 2024?
Hon Penny Simmonds: Total net savings from Vote Environment for the period is $617.826m over four years. This is made up of Budget 2024 savings and December 2023 Mini Budget savings. Pages 43-45 of the Budget 2024 Summary of Initiatives shows Budget 24 delivered net savings to the Crown from Vote Environment of $316.230m over four years ($408.465m of savings offset by $92.235m of new funding for Resource Management Reform Replacement). The December 2023 Mini Budget delivered net savings of $301.596m over four years from the return of funding for the implementation of resource management reforms following the repeal of the Natural and Built Environment Act and the Spatial Planning Act (see page 103 of the Summary of Initiatives). These net savings span the Ministry for the Environment, the Climate Change Commission, and the Environmental Protection Authority.
