41040 (2025). Hon Ginny Andersen to the Minister for Workplace Relations and Safety: For what reasons, if any, does the Minister hope the new appointments to the Employment Relations Authority would lead to smaller awards against businesses?

Hon Brooke van Velden: As I’ve said in introducing my Employment Relations Amendment Bill, I believe that the current personal grievance settings need to be re-tilted to better balance employer and employee interests and discourage poor behaviour. I believe shifts over time have led to increasing uncertainty and incentivised employees to try their luck at raising a personal grievance. The Employment Relations Authority would apply these changes once the new law is in place.
