41005 (2026). Steve Abel to the Minister responsible for RMA Reform: If a Council is seeking to protect trees, how will they be able to identify when trees are at risk of destruction following the changes made to tree protections through the planning act?

Hon Chris Bishop: Under the Planning Bill, individual urban trees will be able to be protected where they have significant historic heritage value. Where protected trees are destroyed, enforcement tools are available to councils to address non-compliance.
