40952 (2026). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Associate Minister of Housing: When in the process of applying for emergency housing with the Ministry for Social Development do individuals get a case file created for their request?
Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development that requests for financial assistance are recorded in client files. A file is only created for people who don't have one, otherwise the request is recorded in their existing file.
When a formal application for Emergency Housing is lodged on a client’s file, any interactions with clients around housing matters are recorded in notes.
Ministry staff first look to find alternative, more sustainable housing solutions for clients. If there is no alternative solution their application for Emergency Housing is processed and the decision is recorded in the client's file.
This is my response to written parliamentary questions 40954 and 40952 (2026).
