40948 (2026). Vanushi Walters to the Attorney-General: What technological progress, if any, has Crown Law made since the 2016 Performance Improvement Framework (PIF) review of “an organisation that is still highly paper based, as part of existing legal practice and not preparing for change”?

Hon Chris Bishop: I am advised that since the 2016 / 2017 PIF review, Crown Law has made significant progress in digital transformation and is substantially less reliant on paper-based processes. This includes implementing cloud-based document management and payroll systems, rolling out laptops to all staff to support flexible and remote working, and strengthening digital information management and cyber security. These changes have reduced the need for physical files and printed documents, while improving access to information, collaboration, and business continuity. While some paper records and processes remain, largely due to external requirements and the management of historic records, Crown Law is significantly less paper-based than it was in 2016 and continues to invest in further digital modernisation.
