40719 (2025). Debbie Ngarewa-Packer to the Minister of Education: Have unions been involved in workforce retention planning for secondary school teachers, if yes, what has been the nature and extent of their involvement?

Hon Erica Stanford: Teacher retention remains stable at around 90%. Retention initiatives are informed by the data used for the Teacher Demand and Supply Report published annually by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry). The Ministry met with Unions and Peak education bodies when the report was released to discuss the report findings and areas of focus around our response to them. The Ministry regularly meets with the unions and Peak bodies to discuss matters of priority for them.
