40245 (2025). Ingrid Leary to the Minister of Health: What are the throughput times in Southern emergency departments?
Hon Simeon Brown: Too many New Zealanders are waiting too long for care in our emergency departments, and while there has been a national improvement in our Government's shorter stays in emergency department health target, from 71.2 per cent in Q4 2023/24 to 73.9 per cent in Q4 2024/25, there is clearly more work to do. I note that this follows a reduction in national performance from 89.2 per cent in Q1 2017/18 to 67.5 per cent in Q1 2023/24. As the Member will be aware, 74.3 per cent of patients in the Southern district were admitted, discharged, or transferred from an emergency department within six hours in Q4 2024/25.
