40164 (2024). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Agriculture: What appropriation does the $400 million (over the next 4 years) “to accelerate the commercialisation of tools and technology to reduce on-farm emissions” come from, and is this funding new between budget contingency spending or was it committed in Budget 24?
Hon Todd McClay: I am advised that this initiative is funded through Vote Agriculture, Biosecurity, Fisheries and Food Safety. A new non-departmental multiyear appropriation, Accelerating Development of Greenhouse Gas Mitigations Research and Development Fund commenced on 1 July 2024. Separately, departmental funding is allocated through the Climate Emergency Response Implementation and Administration appropriation. The Government recommitted funding of $400 million over the next four years to strengthen research and development in getting vital new tools and technology to reduce on-farm emissions to farmers quicker.
