40092 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What is the current number of staff in the health system, if any, that administer breast screening within the existing program, as of 9 July 2024, broken down by region?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that the current number of staff that administer the breast screening programme is 309.86 full-time equivalent (FTE). I am further advised that BreastScreen Aotearoa is delivered by eight lead providers across Aotearoa and contracts for service delivery are held with Health New Zealand and private providers. For a breakdown by region, I refer the Member to the attached table. I am advised that the current FTE does not include privately sub-contracted imaging providers for BreastScreen Counties Manukau (BSCM), BreastScreen Midland (BSM), and BreastScreen South (BSCC), or for pathology, medical physicist, and surgeon roles which are fee-for-service. Pacific Radiology Group (BSOS) and Canterbury BreastCare (BSS) are unable to provide data specifically for the breast screening portion of FTE.
