Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the last quarter toward the action ‘Consolidation and automation of data sources including data quality assessment and control’ as detailed on page 50,51 of Te Whatu Ora’s Quarterly Performance Report (January to March 2024)?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that there are two aspects to this action; one is data quality improvement, and the other is the automation of data sources. A structured approach to improving the quality of source data in relation to Health Targets has begun. This will be delivered in two phases: a tactical phase to address data quality of First Specialist Appointment Waitlists, and the implementation of a strategic longer-term solution. Data supporting Health Targets is predominately sourced from systems based in the hospitals and is curated into National Collections. A modernisation programme has been scoped, and the first phase will focus on the five National Collections used for Health Targets. I am further advised that scoping and planning for work on both data quality and automation of sources occurred in the January to March 2024 quarter.
