40058 (2024). Hon Dr Megan Woods to the Minister for Energy: What progress, if any, has been made on the goal of 10,000 charging points by 2030 in the April–June 2024 quarter?

Hon Simeon Brown: In April, I announced 25 new high-speed charging hubs. Together, the 25 hubs will provide 98 chargers, capable of charging 173 vehicles simultaneously. The majority of these will be in place in 2024. From 30 April to 31 May, the EECA ran a request for proposals for a further funding round, focused on urban charging locations. Announcements of successful projects will be made soon. The Supercharging EV Infrastructure work programme was formalised by Cabinet agreement in April 2024. A Taskforce has been established to coordinate advice across agencies. The Taskforce’s priorities include providing advice on transitioning the co-investment model to maximise private investment, reducing red tape and addressing consenting barriers for the installation of public EV chargers, and working with the EA on addressing barriers such as connection costs.
