Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: What analysis, if any, has been undertaken on the limits and price control settings required for the Emissions Trading Scheme in 2025 in order to comply with New Zealand’s domestic emissions budgets, and New Zealand’s Nationally Determined Contributions?

Hon Simon Watts: Analysis on Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) unit limits and price control settings is currently underway to support Cabinet to take decisions on ETS settings for the years 2025 to 2029. This analysis will be considered alongside submissions from the recent public consultation. Decisions need to be taken in time to update regulations before 30 September 2024. The analysis used to support decisions will be made public following decisions and released in line with our standard market sensitive information protocols.
