40019 (2024). Ingrid Leary to the Minister for Mental Health: Does the Minister agree with Voices of Hope co-founder Jazz Thornton that "wanting to cut down wait times from six months to three weeks, but then increasing the number of people they are training by 80 - I don't really see how that's going to correlate"; if not, why not?
Hon Matt Doocey: I am advised that the five new mental health and addiction targets are key measures in the Government Policy Statement on Health 2024–2027. The GPS includes clear annual expectations for implementation and performance improvement against each target, as well as the performance framework for monitoring both the mental health and addiction targets and wider health targets. They are intended to provide clear performance expectations to health system entities and will drive improved performance and accountability. I am further advised that as four out of the five proposed mental health and addiction targets are new measures, and there are known data quality and completeness issues, progress towards achieving the targets will be incremental and phased in over a number of years.
