Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the last quarter (January to March 2024) to ‘Consider options for kaupapa Māori and Māori-led programmes for whānau affected by cancer’ under Outcome 4: New Zealanders have better cancer survival, supportive care and end-of-life care, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that during this quarter (January to March 2024) the Cancer Control Agency – Te Aho o Te Kahu, working in partnership with the Māori Cancer Leadership Network, continued its work across the sector. Initiatives underway include Pae Whakatere group overseeing changes to breast screening, Cancer navigation – 20 Māori providers funded to introduce or scale up cancer navigation services in their communities, and Rongoā – cross-agency working group set up to understand current state of public funding for rongoā services.
