39985 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Associate Minister of Health: What progress, if any, has been made in the quarter January to March 2024 toward ‘Monitoring Goal 1: Reduced number of new locally acquired HIV infections’ through the monitoring indicator ‘Count of new diagnoses of HIV acquired in Aotearoa New Zealand among gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM), people who inject drugs (PWID), sex workers and prisoners’ as part of Te Whatu Ora’s HIV Monitoring Plan?

Hon Matt Doocey: I am advised that in Financial Year 2023/24, the Public Health Agency in the Ministry of Health led development of the HIV Monitoring Plan in collaboration with the Māori Health Authority, and Health New Zealand. The Plan was developed to support and measure progress towards achieving the goals and targets of the National HIV Action Plan for Aotearoa New Zealand 2023–2030. It was published on the Ministry of Health website in June. Following completion of the HIV Monitoring Plan, work has begun to operationalise it. This work is being done by analytics teams within the Ministry of Health, Health NZ, and the Sexually Transmitted and Blood Borne Infections Technical Advisory Group. The first report on indicators in the HIV Monitoring Plan is not expected until 2025.
