39977 (2025). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: What advice, if any, has the Minister or his Office received about progress, if any, made by the pork industry in transitioning from current farrowing crate and mating stall systems for pigs towards compliant practice?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Decisions on the use of farrowing crate and mating stall systems for pigs are under active consideration. When Cabinet has confirmed new requirements, if any, pig farmers will be able to begin the process of transitioning towards any new requirements. As decisions have not been made yet I have neither sought nor received advice on this topic.
