39974 (2025). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: What decision, if any, has the Minister made about introducing a further transition period of five years, to 2030, allowing the continued use of current farrowing crate and mating stall systems for pigs by the pork industry in New Zealand?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Decisions on the appropriate transition periods for regulations 26 and 27 of the Animal Welfare (Care and Procedure) Regulations 2018 and minimum standards 10 and 11 of the Code of Welfare for Pigs are under active consideration. I will make announcements when decisions have been confirmed by Cabinet.
