39971 (2025). Steve Abel to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: What initial results, if any, has the Minister or his Office received from the Maternity Rings for New Zealand pork production project?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: I'm advised that maternity rings are not yet a commercially available technology in New Zealand, although they are being used commercially in Australia. Trials are currently taking place in New Zealand with the support of MPI's Sustainable Food and Fibre Futures fund and are expected to be completed in 2026. I expect to receive advice from MPI when that trial has concluded.
