39957 (2025). Hon Willie Jackson to the Minister for Māori Development: Does the Minister support 1 million speakers of Te Reo Maori by 2040 and if so, how does the recent decision to remove Te Reo Maori from childrens books support the delivery of this goal?

Hon Tama Potaka: I absolutely support the Maihi Karauna goal of achieving 1 million speakers of te reo Māori by 2040. I note the Minister of Education's decision should be considered in the context of the Government's recent investment in Education in Budget 2025, which includes a range of initiatives that directly support the achievement of the Maihi Karauna goal.
