Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that there are a number of factors that must be taken into account when reviewing an applicant’s health history, and therefore each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis. There is a current review underway of Police’s medical standards to assess specific medications treating ADHD and their compatibility with emergency response work. Some medications prescribed for psychiatric conditions may impair the performance of safety critical tasks faced by Constabulary staff. Psychotropic medications include benzodiazepines (Lorazepam, Diazepam, Temazepam and Clonazepam) and stimulants (Ritalin, Rubifen and Concerta), may not be compatible with emergency response work.
