Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: In response to Reply 37848 (2026) and Reply 33140 (2026), if trial accounts were excluded from access-control testing because they were not intended to access the production environment, what assurances, if any, were established before the launch of SMART that trial accounts could not access the production environment?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that testing did not include the specific scenario of trial accounts accessing the reporting subsystem. As per my response to written parliamentary question 33140 (2026), trial accounts were not intended to access the Student Monitoring, Assessment and Reporting Tool production environment and were therefore not included within the scope of assurance reviews. This reflected an oversight.
