39781 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: In response to Reply 38906 and 38912, does the Minister intend to increase funding and resources for the Local Offices of the Ministry of Education to ensure they can adequately ensure the safety and education of the children of the 516 families who did not return a Statutory Declaration for the 1 July 2023 - 31 December 2023 period and have not been contacted?

Hon Erica Stanford: As previously stated the statutory declaration is only for families who want to access the supervision allowance. The choice of whether or not to claim a supervision allowance is a decision for the home educating family and not related to the quality of education a child is receiving. The current statutory framework around homeschooling was established by the previous Government in the Education and Training Act 2020.
