39768 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: In response to Reply 38908, who, if anyone, then does have a role in ensuring that families are still meeting the requirements of their Certificate of Exemption?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that the Ministry, the parent / caregiver of the child being home educated, and the Education Review Office (ERO) all have roles in ensuring families are meeting the requirements of their Certificate of Exemption. In WPQ 38908 the focus of the question was on the role of the Education Review Office (ERO) in the statutory declaration process in relation to meeting the requirements of the exemption. For clarity, the statutory declaration is a Ministry process which relates only to the optional supervision allowance and is not a mechanism for monitoring exemption requirements. ERO does not have a role in the statutory declaration process.
