39753 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: What are the criteria for the providers and facilitators of Professional Learning and Development for structured literacy approaches?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that the criteria for providers and facilitators focuses on four main categories: Research and Evidence, Professional Learning and Development (PLD), Measuring Impact and Facilitation. Providers are expected to show their expertise in: • evidence informed practice based on current research on what has been shown to be effective, including the science of learning • the elements of structured literacy approaches • their principals of explicit and intentional teaching • effective methods of building teaching capability and changing teaching practice • determining the impact of facilitation on teaching capability, and student progress and achievement • recognising and responding to reading and writing difficulties.
