39678 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Rail: What estimate, if any, has been made of the volume of freight that has permanently transferred from rail to road as a result of the loss of a rail-enabled Cook Strait vessel, and what is the estimated annual revenue impact on KiwiRail?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: Nothing in life is permanent. Rail will be back on the Strait again in 2029, and we believe rail will be a great success for another 30 year generation.
