39667 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: How, if at all, will the government measure the effectiveness of these introduced "consistent assessment tools" in improving student outcomes?

Hon Erica Stanford: Implementing regular and consistent progression monitoring using high-quality standardised assessment tools will mean teachers can identify sooner, and more consistently, when students are falling behind in their learning or need extending. This will help make sure they are getting the extra support and opportunities they need. Smarter assessment information from tools will inform effective decision-making at every level of our schooling system. It will help to provide students, parents and teachers with a better understanding of next steps for learning. It will support schools with their planning and allocation of resources and interventions. At a system level, it will provide an aggregate picture, enabling us to measure the effectiveness of other policy changes (including to teaching and curriculum), make improvements based on evidence, and see how we are tracking as a system towards improved achievement and equity outcomes.
