39634 (2025). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What is the median average pay rates for Te Whatu Ora Health NZ nurses employed as a Designated Senior Nurse role Grade 1 - Grade 6 (Formerly Grade 3 – Grade 8) from 1 January 2024 – 31 December 2024?

Hon Simeon Brown: The Government values our nurses and the vital care they give patients, and that is why the average salary for a registered nurse is now over $125,000 a year, including overtime and allowances. I am advised that Health New Zealand can only provide mean pay rates for nurses. The mean salary for Health New Zealand nurses employed as a Designated Senior Nurse role Grade 1 to Grade 6 (Formerly Grade 3 to Grade 8) for the period from May 2024 to 1 January 2025, for which data is available, was $141,108.
