39618 (2025). Scott Willis to the Minister for Energy: What estimates, analysis or modelling, if any, does MBIE keep on projected electricity demand from data centers, and what projections does it show out to 2050?
Hon Simon Watts: "MBIE estimated potential electricity demand from data centres in the 2024 update of its Electricity Demand and Generation Scenarios (EDGS). Four scenarios of future data centre build were considered as part of this. These show that by 2050, annual electricity demand from data centres could be between 0.89 TWh (tera watt hours) to 4.60 TWh.
