39610 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: In response to Reply 38905, what, if anything, is checked prior to and during a home visit to a home-educating family's household?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Education Review Office that when planning and completing a home visit, in order to assess whether the child is being taught at least as regularly and well at home as in a registered school, ERO looks at the parent’s application for exemption held by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry), any information shared between the parent and the Ministry before the review, the Ministry information and guidelines, educational programme, student assessment and evaluation records, student work and the learning environment. Previous ERO reports and information from credible sources, for example Oranga Tamariki, may also be checked.
