39548 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What, if any, types of targeted and tailored support will there be for students that are not meeting expectations?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am committed to ensuring that supports are in place so that schools and kura can respond when assessment and aromatawai indicates there is a need. I have asked the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) for advice on the proposed model for supports and services, including staffing, for the delivery of targeted and tailored learning from the start of next year. Targeted and tailored supports will accelerate progress by increasing the intensity of instruction and will build on effective structured teaching approaches at the universal, classroom level, drawing on the updated national curriculum which is currently in development. Schools will continue to be supported by a range of regional services from the Ministry, such as Resource Teachers Literacy, speech language support, and specialist support staff.
