39545 (2024). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What costs, if any, are there for schools in using Progressive Assessment Tests (PATs) or e-asTTle?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education that there are both fixed and variable costs for schools that choose to use Progressive Achievement Tests (PATs).
For a school to access the PATs service, there is a $300 cost for a yearly subscription, and each subject area costs an additional $30 (per school). There are additional costs for the service depending on the number of tests, number of students, and mode of administration (online or manual) purchased. Costs for PATs therefore vary between schools.
The New Zealand Council for Educational Research owns the PATs. An assessment cost calculator is provided on the organisation’s website at: https://www.nzcer.org.nz/marking-service-cost-calculator.
The e-asTTle tool is free for use.
