39474 (2024). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Corrections: What proportion of the Corrections budget was spent on rehabilitation related services in the previous 5 years?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that, by best available estimates, Corrections has spent between 5.2 and 7.3 percent of the total Vote Corrections departmental operating budget (direct costs and allocated overheads) on rehabilitation-related services between the 2018/19 and 2022/23 financial years. I am further advised for the purposes of answering the member’s question, these proportions refer to spend on offence-based programmes, mental health and addictions support and other rehabilitation programmes designed to address the cause of offending. They do not include training and education, offender employment or other reintegration services such as housing support services.
