39411 (2025). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: Is Kāinga Ora prioritising certain regions of the country for state home sales and if so, what are those regions?
Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that when considering where to sell state homes as part of its renewal programme, it considers a range of factors including homes located on sub-optimal or subscale land, that are of poor quality and expensive to maintain or repair, that do not meet changing tenant needs or forecast demand in that location, or are of high value. Sub-optimal or subscale land would include land where it is not economically viable to build due to flood risk. In remote areas where there is low forecast demand and it is uneconomical for Kāinga Ora to renew its housing stock, sales will be prioritised.
