Rt Hon Chris Hipkins to the Associate Minister of Agriculture: Does he stand by the Prime Minister's statement regarding the resumption of live animal exports “So, we shouldn't be turning down growth opportunities”, if so, what advice, reports, briefings, or any other documents has he received regarding the reputational risk to New Zealand of resuming live animal exports?

Hon Andrew Hoggard: Yes, this Government has committed to returning the ability for farmers to export livestock by sea, while also ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare. This Government believes that continuing the trade is possible, while ensuring that any shipments take place with the highest standards that protect the welfare of the animals and uphold our international reputation as a responsible exporter of animals. In my capacity as Associate Minister of Agriculture (Animal Welfare, Skills), between 27 November 2023 and 3 July 2024, I received the documents in the attached table which contained information regarding the reputational risk to New Zealand of resuming livestock exports by sea.
