39308 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Have there been any physical assaults on youth justice residents at Te Maioha o Parekarangi over the past six months; if so, how many?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that there have been 35 recorded incidents of young person-on-young person assaults at Te Maioha o Parekarangi in the six months from 1 March to 31 August 2026. Note that any physical contact can be categorised as an assault. This term does not differentiate between levels of severity. In these instances, young people are supported by staff and receive any necessary medical attention.
