Camilla Belich to the Attorney-General: What pilot programmes, if any, have been initiated by any departments or agencies for which the Minister is responsible since 27 November 2023, and what were their commencement dates, durations, funding sources and amounts, objectives, and current status?

Hon Judith Collins: The Parliamentary Counsel Office has undertaken several pilots aimed at improving how legislation is produced, published, and accessed, while ensuring any risks or limitations of emerging technologies are carefully considered. These include: • Launching the pilot NZ Legislation website with improved user experience and links to secondary legislation • Exploring how AI can support the process of creating and accessing legislation, using only publicly available data • Establishing a Drafting Development Team to provide structured training for new Parliamentary Counsel staff to support workforce development. All pilots have been funded from existing operational budgets. Further details are available in Select Committee Estimates reviews. Crown Law has undertaken a series of small-scale pilot programmes as part of an ongoing commitment to improve efficiency and effectiveness. These pilots are designed to test different ways of working, evaluate new internal processes, and gather evidence on their feasibility and impact before considering any wider implementation. This includes a Case Advisory Service (CAS) pilot for the Crown Solicitor network. All these activities have been conducted within baseline funding, with no additional funding received.
